I received my advanced license in 2011 and was primarily on VHF for a couple years.
It did not take long before I had a Kenwood TS820 in the shack and a mini G5RV strung across the back yard.
The TS820 is a good unit however I did find it did not produce a clear & clean sound.
The TS440 was added and soon proved that in fact the TS820 did have a problem with distorion.
After pulling it apart, isolating and fixing it was as clean as the TS440.
The setup consists of an ICOM IC208 dual band driving a Diamond X50A for VHF/UHF and the TS440S driving a Hustler 5-BTV vertical.
Every once-in-a-while several of us Hams get together for an outting.
Call it a field say without a contest.
We meet in the morning in some obscure location and setup a HF station out of the back of our car.
Setup an antenna and see who we can contact.
